How does online therapy work?
Registering to utilize online therapy is very similar to registering to come in to the office. Call or e-mail to schedule an initial appointment. Forms will be sent to you via a secure portal system, which you can complete online and send back. If utilizing video sessions, your counselor will provide you with a link that, when clicked, will bring you to their virtual waiting room. Once your counselor is ready and see you in their "room" they will begin your session. If using phone, then your counselor will provide you with a phone number and conference ID to enter the session.
In order to promote the best experience for online therapy, we suggest that you find a quiet and private place to use for your session. This will help you to feel safer and more comfortable in session, as well as avoid the possibility for distraction and interruption. If you are doing your appointment from home, sitting close to your WiFi router will ensure a better connection, and therefore a better video experience. Our clinicians make sure to be in a quiet and private location whenever they are engaging in online therapy sessions as well. Even though you are not physically in the same location as your therapist, your therapist is still devoting 100% of their attention and energy on you. |
Is online therapy in New York effective?
Online therapy can be just as effective as in person therapy. There can even be benefits to doing therapy online rather than in person. When you do therapy online, you have control over designing your space to be as comforting and relaxing as possible. You do not have to add the stress of travel (especially during bad weather!) and traffic to attending your appointments. Should home or work be a source of stress for you, then participating in online therapy in that space can help you to be able to best explore and work through the feelings and concerns that come up for you.
How much does NY online therapy cost?
Online therapy costs the same as in person sessions. Payment can be provided using a credit, debit, or HSA/FSA card. Most insurance plans cover online therapy, however we will verify this prior to the start of your therapy with us to be sure.
